The daughter of S.M. and Alice (Bridges) Calhoun, Rubie Mae was born on May 20, 1915, in Beaver County, Okla. She attended and graduated from Greenough Consolidated School. Mae worked as a nurse in the Denver, Colo., area and closer to home in Liberal, Kan.
She was united in marriage to Lauren Hiller in 1948. Shortly after they married, the two of them made their home in Kiowa County near Eads, Colo., to farm, working the land for more than 26 years. They moved to Roswell for several years to be closer to Mae’s sister, Zelma Finney.
In 1986, Mae and Lauren moved closer to the farm and made their home in Pueblo West, Colo. There they made many friends, became close with their neighbors and where Mae so loved the Bible study group that she attended weekly. Mae was a woman of strong faith and prayer.
They moved back to Oklahoma in 2002. On April 17, 2007, Lauren passed away at home.
Mae and Lauren were married for almost 59 years. Through it all, with God’s help and strength, they had a happy and productive life. Together, they enjoyed their worldwide travels.
Even though Mae and Lauren did not have children of their own, Mae was a mother to many. Through their generous support to children and youth, they have blessed many lives worldwide, namely the Colorado Boys Ranch, College of the Ozarks, Christ for the Nations and American Center for Law and Justice.

The nephews all have fond memories of good times with Mae, especially as kids visiting her on the farm, and the unconditional love she always gave them. Until We Meet Again
By: Unknown
Each morning when we awake
We know that you are gone.
And no one knows the heartache
As we try to carry on.
Our hearts still ache with sadness
And many tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you,
No one will ever know.
Our thoughts are always with you,
Your place no one can fill.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still.
There will always be a heartache,
And often a silent tear,
But always a precious memory
Of the days when you were here.
If tears could make a staircase,
And heartaches make a lane
We’d walk the path to heaven,
And bring you home again
We hold you close in our hearts,
And there you will remain.
To walk with us throughout our lives,
Until we meet again.
Our family chain is broken now,
And nothing will be the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
