The Clinical Team at Roswell Home Health & Hospice includes (standing, left to right) Geargia Shaw, Richard McConnell, Sherri Burnham, Shirley Harkey, Melanie Wheeler and Mabel Fuentes. Front row: Bobby Dockins, Kelly McConnell and Carmen Ortega. Not pictured are Therisa Johnson, Jennifer Hernandez, Adrianna Carillo and Belem Nava.
Hospice is not a place but a concept of care

The word hospice is mysterious to the general public. In fact it seems that difficult news travels fast as you hear the word faintly whispered in the halls of a home. You see loved ones cup their hand over their mouth telling the news. "You know, he's on Hospice. The reply, "Oh no, really!” “Yes, they put him on this morning.”  Gasp!

Most cannot define hospice. Myths and fears - as second hand information becomes the  norm. Most will define hospice as “the end.” "They've given up."

Contrary. Your physician realizes a special type of care is needed. At Roswell Hospice, we fight that battle with you to the very end. Know that no one knows when you will die. Question, what has changed before you elect hospice and after? Nothing. You are still you. The disease is no different and all hope is not lost.

The Roswell Humane Society is a nonprofit organization which was formed in 1970 for the purpose of preventing cruelty to animals, caring for homeless pets, and the extension of humane education. They are located at 703 East McGaffey Street. The Shelter contains 36 inside-outside runs, 20 inside cages, and 18 cat cages. At this present time, they are housing 100 dogs. It also has an office, quarantine room and a treatment room. They could not have accomplished what they have done in the past 40 years, if it weren’t for the generosity of local businesses, individuals and organizations. Their support enables the Roswell Humane Society to have the potential to fulfill their mission to realize their vision of a future where no animal is abused or neglected, and adoptable pets aren’t left to fend for themselves. The Roswell Humane Society receives no funding from any federal, state, county, or city entity, relying solely on the charitable donations from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), or any other charitable pet organizations.

Are tax changes coming? Consult May, Taylor & Company, CPA's, to plan your future

Dick Taylor, CPA, at May, Taylor & Co., says, “We could be experiencing some major tax changes in the next few years.

“Congress has not dealt with the Estate Tax or Income Tax laws that are going to ‘sunset’ on January 1, 2011,” says Dick.

“This year there is no Estate Tax, but the sunset is approaching and taxes will go back to amounts over $1 million.

“The Estate Tax Exemption in 2009 was $3.5 million, with no Estate Tax on individuals that died in 2010. Congress did not act before year’s end, but most experts believed Congress will extend the 2009 rules to cover 2010 and make it retroactive to January 1, 2010.
